Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between coaching and therapy?
Coaching and psychotherapy are two distinct professions. Psychotherapy focuses on emotional problems and nervous disorders and may even result in a mental health diagnosis. The goals of psychotherapy include alleviating symptoms, understanding the underlying dynamics that create symptoms, changing dysfunctional behaviors, and developing new strategies for successfully coping with the psychological challenges in one’s life.
While both therapy and coaching may also involve behavioral interventions and strategies to increase motivation, coaching tends to focus more on moving forward than on going backward. Coaching can also be more directive and involves less sitting with feelings or processing painful past experiences. In coaching, we focus on goals and follow through with action plans with specific personal and/or professional projects.
Can I seek therapy services from any location?
Due to professional licensing requirements, therapists can only provide therapy services to clients in the state in which they are licensed. I am currently licensed in Georgia, Oregon, and North Carolina (coming soon) and can provide therapy services to clients in these states.
Can I seek coaching services from any location?
Yes, as a coach, I can provide coaching services to clients from all states and countries across the world. If we assess that your needs are better suited for therapy, I can support you in getting connected to therapy services in your area.
Do you accept my insurance?
For therapy clients only, to ensure that I am in-network with your insurance, call the number on the back of your insurance card before your first session. If insurance does not cover the cost of your sessions, you will be responsible for the full charge.
Therapy clients are welcome to submit a bill to their insurance companies to seek out-of-network coverage.
Coaching clients are self-pay.
Do you offer sliding scale?
